Relative pronouns: dont, lequel, ce qui, ce que
«whose», «of which», «about which», «which / what» and the no-stranded-prepositions rule.
Dont: replaces de + …
Used with verbs and expressions that take de (parler de, avoir besoin de, se souvenir de, être fier de) and to mean «whose».
- Le livre dont je parle est ici.The book I'm talking about is here.
- C'est l'outil dont j'ai besoin.It's the tool I need.
- Une amie dont le frère est acteur.A friend whose brother is an actor.
Lequel after a preposition
After a preposition, use lequel for things. It agrees in gender and number («which»):

- La table sur laquelle j'écris.The table I'm writing on.
- Le projet auquel je pense.The project I'm thinking about.
- Le parc près duquel j'habite.The park I live near.
For people after a preposition, use qui: la personne à qui j'ai parlé (the person I spoke to).
Ce qui / ce que = what
- Ce qui m'intéresse, c'est l'histoire.What interests me is history.
- Dis-moi ce que tu veux.Tell me what you want.
- Je ne comprends pas ce qu'il dit.I don't understand what he's saying.
