Present tense of -er verbs

The biggest verb group (parler, aimer, habiter), and why «je mange» means both «I eat» and «I am eating».

About 90% of French verbs end in -er. Remove -er and add the endings:

Good news: parle, parles, parle, parlent all sound exactly the same [parl].

One present tense for three English ones

  • J'habite à Londres.
    I live in London.
  • Qu'est-ce que tu regardes ?
    What are you watching?
  • Vous parlez français ?
    Do you speak French?
  • Ils travaillent le samedi.
    They work on Saturdays.
