Present participle or verbal adjective?

convainquant / convaincant, fatiguant / fatigant, différant / différent: same sound, different spelling.

An -ant form can be a participle (an action; invariable) or a verbal adjective (a quality; agrees like any adjective).

Test: if it has an object or complement, or can be replaced with «qui + verb», it's a participle. If you can put «très» before it, it's an adjective.
