Object pronouns: le, la, les, lui, leur

«Him, her, it, them» go before the verb in French.

  • Tu connais Marie ? – Oui, je la connais.
    Do you know Marie? – Yes, I know her.
  • Je téléphone à mes parents. → Je leur téléphone.
    I'm calling my parents. → I'm calling them.
  • Il me donne son numéro.
    He's giving me his number.

With two verbs and in the passé composé

  • With an infinitive, the pronoun goes before the infinitive: Je vais le voir (I'm going to see him).
  • In the passé composé, before the auxiliary: Je l'ai vu (I saw him).
  • In the negative: Je ne le vois pas. Je ne l'ai pas vu.
