The future perfect (futur antérieur)

«I will have finished», and «when I have finished» in French.

Auxiliary (avoir / être) in the futur simple + past participle: j'aurai fini, tu seras parti, nous aurons mangé.

  • Dès que tu seras arrivé, envoie-moi un message.
    As soon as you've arrived, send me a message.
  • À six heures, j'aurai terminé.
    By six I will have finished.
  • Quand vous aurez lu ce livre, vous comprendrez.
    When you've read this book, you'll understand.
  • Il est en retard ; il aura raté le train.
    He's late; he must have missed the train.

It's mainly used after quand, lorsque, dès que, aussitôt que, une fois que, après que, when one future action is completed before another.
