The negative imperative and imperatives with pronouns

No hables, no comas: negative commands use the subjunctive.

The negative imperative, for every person, is no + present subjunctive.

Pronoun position

In affirmative commands pronouns are attached: Cómpralo (Buy it). In negative commands they go before the verb, separately: No lo compres (Don't buy it).

  • No te preocupes, todo va a salir bien.
    Don't worry, everything will be fine.
  • Dímelo, pero no se lo digas a nadie.
    Tell me, but don't tell anyone.
