Le subjonctif (base verbale)

Après les verbes et expressions d'exigence ou de recommandation (suggest, recommend, insist, demand, require, it is essential / vital / important that), l'anglais soutenu emploie la base verbale à toutes les personnes, sans -s et sans « do » à la négation.

  • I suggest that he be present.
    Je suggère qu'il soit présent.
  • It is essential that she attend the meeting.
    Il est essentiel qu'elle assiste à la réunion.
  • They insisted that he not leave.
    Ils ont insisté pour qu'il ne parte pas.
