Les relatives : who, which, that, whose, where
Qui / que se traduisent selon la personne ou la chose, et on peut souvent omettre le pronom.
| Pronom | Emploi | Exemple |
|---|---|---|
| who | personnes | the man who called |
| which | choses, animaux | the book which I bought |
| that | personnes ou choses (relatives déterminatives) | the car that I want |
| whose | dont (possession) | the woman whose son is a doctor |
| where / when | où (lieu / temps) | the town where I was born, the day when we met |
Relatives explicatives (avec virgules)
Entre virgules, pas de that et pas d'omission : My brother, who lives in Rome, is coming. Paris, which I love, is expensive.
