El past perfect (had + participio)
«Ya había comido»: una acción anterior a otra en el pasado.
Formación: had + participio, en todas las personas. Equivale al pretérito pluscuamperfecto.
- When I arrived, the film had already started.Cuando llegué, la película ya había empezado.
- She told me she had lost her keys.Me dijo que había perdido las llaves.
- I had never seen the sea before that trip.Nunca había visto el mar antes de ese viaje.
También existe un past perfect continuous: I had been waiting for an hour when she arrived (llevaba una hora esperando cuando llegó).
