Sustantivos compuestos y adjetivos compuestos

a ten-year-old boy, a two-hour meeting, a coffee cup, a cup of coffee.

El inglés coloca a menudo un sustantivo delante de otro para calificarlo, donde el español usa «de»: a bus station (estación de autobuses), a kitchen table (mesa de cocina).

Adjetivos compuestos con un número

Cuando número + sustantivo califica a otro sustantivo, se usan guiones y el sustantivo queda en singular:

  • a ten-year-old boy
    un niño de diez años
  • a two-hour meeting
    una reunión de dos horas
  • a five-star hotel
    un hotel de cinco estrellas
  • a 20-euro note
    un billete de 20 euros

¿'s o sustantivo + sustantivo?

El genitivo 's se usa sobre todo con personas y animales (my brother's car) y expresiones de tiempo (today's newspaper, a week's holiday); sustantivo + sustantivo para objetos y tipos (the car door, no «the car's door»).
