  1. 1 The alphabet and pronunciation 24 letters, letter combinations like ου, αι, μπ, and the five vowel sounds.
  2. 2 Stress and the written accent Every word of two or more syllables has a written accent showing the stressed syllable.
  3. 3 Personal pronouns: εγώ, εσύ, αυτός… Usually left out, like in Spanish or Italian, with a polite plural «εσείς».
  4. 4 The verb είμαι (to be) Είμαι, είσαι, είναι…: the most important irregular verb.
  5. 5 Gender and articles: ο, η, το Three genders — masculine, feminine, neuter — and the definite and indefinite articles.
  6. 6 Noun endings: the main groups The typical endings of masculine, feminine and neuter nouns in the nominative.
  7. 7 The plural of nouns -οι, -ες, -α, -ια, -ματα: plural endings by noun group.
  8. 8 Adjectives: agreement Adjectives agree with the noun in gender, number and case, and usually come before it.
  9. 9 Present tense: verbs in -ω (group A) Γράφω, διαβάζω, μένω: the most common conjugation.
  10. 10 Present tense: stressed verbs in -άω / -ώ (group B) Μιλάω, αγαπάω, μπορώ, ζω: the second conjugation.
  11. 11 The accusative case The form used for objects and after most prepositions: τον φίλο, την πόλη, το σπίτι.
  12. 12 Questions and negation: δεν, μην, τι, πού… Question words, the Greek question mark ; and the two negatives δεν and μη(ν).
  13. 13 Numbers, dates and time Numbers that agree with gender, telling the time, days and months.
  14. 14 Basic prepositions: σε, από, με, για σε + article = στο, στη, στον; and other everyday prepositions with the accusative.
